Resignation Process- Actual Resignation

Resignations are always a hard thing to do. You have scrutinized the new opportunity, run the numbers, consulted friends and family and have made the decision on your terms, now comes the act of resigning. Be firm in your resolve and don't waiver. Avoid the pitfalls of, "let's go to lunch to talk about it", or the proverbial carrot, "I was just about to tell you about a raise and the plans we had". All these are tactics to change the dialogue from your terms to theirs (please see counteroffers). Be respectful, avoid any negativity about your position, you'll be gone in two weeks, there's no point in burning any unnecessary bridges. Stay resolute and let them know this is the best decision for you AND your family and to respect your decision as final.
